It’s easy to join PBI in going green. Just follow these steps:
- Make office lighting more energy efficient. Switch to CFL, T-8 or LED bulbs.
- As equipment needs to be replaced, buy new equipment with the ENERGY STAR rating.
What is energy star? ENERGY STAR is a label given by the EPA that identifies products as energy efficient. ENERGY STAR products reduce greenhouse gas emissions, pollution rates and your energy bills!
- Turn off all computer equipment at the end of the workday.
- Regulate or program your thermostat to minimize energy use when your office is closed.
- Use recycled content or F.S.C. (Forest Stewardship Council) certified multipurpose office paper.
- Switch to recycled content tissue and towel products such as napkins, toilet tissue and paper towels.
- If you stock disposable containers, such as cups, plates and utensils choose earth-friendly, compostable or biodegradable alternatives like bagasse, PLA or recycled paper.
- Buy remanufactured (recycled) toner and ink cartridges
- Use non-toxic or natural cleaning products.
- Recycle as many items as possible including: office paper, beverage containers, newspaper and corrugated cardboard.
- Make an effort to minimize your office’s paper use, including: auto-duplex copying and printing, using both sides for internal communications and expanding your paperless communication.
- Make drinking water available to your staff by installing a drinking fountain, cooler or tap
- If your business owns or leases vehicles, offer alternative energy vehicles such as hybrids, bio-diesel, fuel cell, electric or natural gas powered.
- Create space for bicycle parking
- Provide changing rooms for employees who use alternative methods of transportation to get to work, such as bicycling or walking.
